Free Gun Locks
The Shawnee Mission School District Police Department is pleased to offer free gun locks to students, staff, and patrons to help secure firearms from children. Free gun locks are available from any District Resource Officer at the following locations:
- Center for Academic Achievement, 913-993-6220
- SM East, 913-993-6227
- SM North, 913-993-6923
- SM Northwest, 913-993-7222
- SM South, 913-993-7523
- SM West, 913-993-7823
- Horizons, 913-993-9518
Other SMSD schools with a request for free gun locks may email smsdpolice@smsd.org and they will be delivered to the building.

“NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Shawnee Mission School Board declares the month of June 2025 to be National Gun Violence Awareness Month. We remind our community that the District will continue to provide gun locks free of charge to community members, and we encourage all community members to store their guns safely, securely, and out of reach of children.”
