The Shawnee Mission Area Council (SMAC) PTA Clothing Exchange (CE) will accept donations in its clothing bin during the first week of January.
The PTA-run Clothing Exchange is a shop-like resource that offers free used clothing and shoes to residents within the Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD) boundaries.
Items can also be dropped off from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7.
As the new year begins, SMAC PTA will be accepting gently used items including:
· Clothing of all sizes
· Blankets of all sizes
· Sheets twin size or larger
· Sleeping bags
· Bathroom towels and wash cloths
Shawnee Mission PTAs across the district fund and host donation drives to support the exchange. They provide support especially for some of the most high-demand items: new underwear and new socks for SMSD students. Each student enrolled in the Shawnee Mission School District may receive five new pairs of socks and five new pairs of underwear each semester. Proof of enrollment and ID are required.
Clothing Exchange volunteers work closely with school social workers and nurses to assist individual families and students with clothing needs. Students who receive post-high transition services partner with the CE to clean, sort, and organize items, as part of enhancing their job skills goals and providing needed services at the CE.
