Inspired by the strength of a Shawnee Mission student, Kansas State head football coach Chris Klieman recently made a special signing announcement.
Gunar Reed, a Shawnee Mission West student, was named a special 15th recruit and Wildcat for life during the early 2021 signing period. Click here to see a video from K-State Sports.
“You talk about somebody that embodies toughness, resiliency, character, integrity, always has a smile on his face, G-Man has been through an awful lot,’ Klieman said in a press conference.
Klieman noted that Reed has been through 36 surgeries, including three open-heart surgeries. On a Make-a-Wish Foundation day, Reed connected with several K-State players on Zoom and the interaction had an impact on everyone, according to a press release.
While it has been a tough year and a tough season, nobody has been as tough as Reed, Klieman added.
“Nobody is as tough as G-Man,” Klieman expressed. “Nobody is as tough as his family, to persevere and to go through what he has gone through his whole life and to do it with the pride he has. We love you, G-Man, and we're always rooting for you, we're always praying for you, and so happy to welcome you to the K-State Family."
