Pre-K-11 Students Complete the School Year
Shawnee Mission School District

Across the district, students in grades Pre-k through 11 participated in final classroom activities, clap-outs, parades, and other celebrations to mark the end of the school year and all of the ways students have been #SMSDStrong.

May 27, 2011 marked the last day for students in kindergarten through 11th grade and Pre-kindergarten students concluded their school year on May 26, 2021.

Pawnee Elementary, for example, held a drive-through graduation for kindergarten students. As each student rode through the event, teachers read their names aloud on the microphone, presented the student with a certificate, and a few goodies to take home. As the kindergarten graduates waved, teachers were on-hand to cheer and wish the students well as they look toward entering first grade.

On Thursday, Pawnee sixth-grade teachers planned a parade for their students, honoring their move to middle school. Teacher Skyler Ross said she will always remember how adaptable her students have been this year.

“This group had many difficult things to deal with, but came out better and smarter than before,” Ross shared. “They are a wonderful group and have shown lots of growth all year. They are a great group of kids and we wish them the best of luck in their future!”
