Real World Learning Webinar on Thursday, May 6

Middle and high school families are invited to attend a webinar at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 6 to learn more about Real World Learning opportunities.

The Shawnee Mission School District, along with 44 other school districts in the Kansas City region, is partnering with the Kauffman Foundation to provide Real World Learning experiences for our students.

6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 6 (session will be recorded)

This session features information on a variety of opportunities for high school students to earn college credit

AP, IB, CN, Excel in CTE, oh my! Besides courses based in our high schools, Johnson County Community College has hundreds of credit classes which are free to high school students. Learn more about all the options available to students, including on working towards an associate degree while still in high school. High School Counselors will be participating in this discussion.

The goal of Real World Learning is to better prepare our students for college and careers. Our goal is for every student to graduate with at least one Market Value Asset (MVA).

Market Value Assets include:

●      Work Experience: internships and client connected projects

●      Entrepreneurial Experiences

●      Industry-Recognized Credentials

●      College Credit

Learn about the importance of connecting to professionals and business partners in the roles of mentors and coaches. “Leaving to Learn” or internship opportunities allow students to hone workplace skills and gain resume-worthy experiences in various career fields. Hear from current and former students about their experiences.
