On April 1, Shawnee Mission is taking time to say an extra word of thanks to paraprofessionals for the daily support they provide students and staff.
Paraeducators are an essential piece of the learning team, providing support in every Shawnee Mission school and program.
This year, the Special Education Department asked Special Education teachers “What do you want to be sure all SMSD paras know.” A wordle artwork was created to highlight the responses. Staff shared many descriptions including, but not limited to “dedicated,” patient,” “dependable,” and “heart of special education.”
Paraeducators play a critical role in helping each student achieve personal excellence, Sherry Dumolien, director of special education shared.
“I hope everyone joins us in saying thank you to the paraeducators they know in our community,” Dumolien added. “ They make a direct impact with our students and in our schools, our paras directly contribute to our student success.”
The Shawnee Mission School District thanks paraeducators for the important role they play on our team.
