2021 Senior Gunar Reed recently accomplished two of his dreams with the help of two school communities.
Shawnee Mission West and K-State Football helped Reed celebrate his high school graduation and participate in a K-State Signing Ceremony. Click here to see a video.
Reed has been through 36 surgeries, including three open heart surgeries. Circumstances prompted SM West to hold the ceremony in his honor this January.
“Graduating high school has been the biggest goal he has had in life,” Shana Reed, parent said. “They have changed his life in all of the positive ways and have given him a focus.”
Several of Reed’s teachers spoke at the ceremony, highlighting his accomplishments and how he has inspired many.
“I’m so proud of you Gunar,” off campus education services teacher Katie Marx “Thank you for this amazing experience I’ve had being your teacher for the last three years. We will be friends forever.”
In December, Coach Chris Klieman named Gunar Reed a K-State football signee and Wildcat for life. During the recent ceremony, K-State football made it official, Skylar Thompson, K-State Wildcats quarterback and Taylor Braet, K-State director of football recruiting, were on-hand. Klieman and athletes also presented a video with words of thanks and encouragement.
“Thank you guys for doing this,” Reed said to all who attended. “You’re awesome.”
