Thank You SMSD Retirees and Service Award Recipients
Shawnee Mission School District

The Shawnee Mission School District celebrated a group of dedicated employees with a walk-through reception on Wednesday, May 5.

This event honored service award recipients from the 2019-2020 school year and the 2020-2021 school year and retirees from the 2020-2021 school year. In total, these individuals represent nearly 9,000 years of service to the Shawnee Mission School District.

“The impact of those years and your tremendous investment in our schools cannot be counted, but it can be seen in the success of our students and the excellent reputation of our district,” Superintendent Mike Fulton wrote to the attendees.

The event theme highlighted how these educators have contributed to keeping us “SMSD Strong.” Each attendee was able to pick up a token of appreciation, refreshments, and a commemorative program.

District leaders and Board members were on-hand to congratulate the honorees.

“We would only be half an organization without you, the incredible, dedicated staff who ensure that innovative and challenging teaching and learning is carried out every day, in every school and with every child,” Kim Hinkle, executive director of the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation expressed.

“As an educator you have played a significant part in providing an outstanding learning experience for our students and have contributed to our strong reputation,” Board of Education President Heather Ousley wrote to honorees. “We thank you and wish you all the best as you take your next steps.”
