Join the Shawnee Mission School District in celebrating Public Schools Week! Nationally, this week recognizes the 50.8 million students, 3.2 million teachers and hundreds of thousands of support staff working in public schools every day.
The Shawnee Mission School District is the third largest school district in Kansas, with about than 27,000 students and 3,400 staff members. Our district has 34 elementary schools, five middle schools, and five high schools.
Our objective is that every student will have a personalized learning plan that supports them in being college and career ready and having the interpersonal skills important to life success.
“In these extraordinary times, we remain resolute in the critical importance of public schools in welcoming every child, without bias, to a free and appropriate public education,” Superintendent Mike Fulton said. “We are committed to helping every student reach their full potential – it is one of the most important acts we take as a community to support and grow community.”
The Kansas Association of School Boards shared the following facts about the role public schools play in our state:
· Kansas Public Schools provide the equivalent of more than 72,000 full time positions
· Kansas graduation rates increased every year over the past four years
· Kansas Public Schools serve more than 90% of students
