Today, we are thrilled to welcome new teachers to the Shawnee Mission School District! Across our community, Shawnee Mission’s newest educators begin their first day on August 3.
Over their first three days, new teachers will be introduced to administrators, teachers, and instructional coaches who will provide orientation and training as they begin work in the SMSD. They will learn about Shawnee Mission School District schools, attend professional development, work with mentors, and get to know colleagues new to teaching in Shawnee Mission.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Fulton thanked them for choosing to teach in our community.
“Please know you are joining an outstanding team of dedicated teachers, staff, parents, students, and a board of education who work as a team to ensure the success of our community,” Fulton said. “The most important thing to remember is we are here to ensure the success of every student we serve.”
The academy is being held this year in a new format to allow attendees to follow current guidelines and health and safety protocols.
The theme for the academy is “You Inspire New Possibilities,” encouraging all participating to reflect on the positive difference teachers make in the lives of students.
“I have all the confidence in the world that in spite of this new normal, you are going to make a deep impact with your students,” Michael Schumacher, director of secondary human resources said. “Thank you again for being here. Thank you for joining us and congratulations.”
