Celebrating National School Librarian Day!

School Librarian Day
Shawnee Mission School District

In honor of National Library Week and School Librarian Day please take a moment to thank SMSD librarians!

District librarians work tirelessly every day to ensure each school community is surrounded with opportunities to learn and enjoy books. Krista Carson, elementary curriculum and instruction coordinator shared “Our librarians work to ensure our students have the resources to build their knowledge through books and connect with others.”

Across the district, this year librarians worked together to plan for a year of book exploration through Read Across SMSD. They supported and worked to engage students and families in family events such as playground book walks, book fairs, book competitions, and reading nights.

An amazing quality of SMSD librarians is seen their passion to build a system of libraries that stick together to ensure a cohesive district program, Carson added. “Not only do our librarians provide books and connection to print media, they also provide technology resources and digital guidance,” she noted.  “Using these resources, students can connect to libraries throughout the world. They are a collaborative team that shares ideas, innovates, solve problems, and designs experiences for all of OUR students, families, and teachers in the Shawnee Mission School District”.

National School Librarian Day is held during National Library Week. It recognizes the professionals who make our school libraries possible. This is a time to celebrate the contributions of our SMSD librarians.
