Celebrating School Transportation Appreciation Day

Celebrating School Transportation Appreciation Day
Shawnee Mission School District

We encourage the community to take time to say an extra word of thanks to our bus drivers who serve in the Shawnee Mission School District.

Recognizing the important role in safety that school transportation employees play, Gov. Laura Kelly designated Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, as School Transportation Appreciation Day.

“We transport the world’s most precious commodity”, says Kevin Stagner, general manager of DS Bus Line. Our drivers take pride in the schools they service.  Stagner also shares that a student once nominated their bus driver for Teacher of the Year.  Shawnee Mission currently has transportation router, Frances Bussell, who has safely bussed our district students for 51 years.

School Transportation Day is held within National School Bus Safety Week, designed to raise awareness for ways everyone can remain safe as students travel to and from school.
