It’s a great day to thank a group of individuals who guide, support, and encourage students to achieve their personal best. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021 is National Coaches Day.
At the secondary level, there are about 500 coaches who serve our schools throughout all athletic seasons, Kent Glaser, director of athletics and activities shared. He noted the countless hours coaches dedicate to preparing for practice and contests, often in addition to another job. The time they spend often keeps students involved in their school and community and helps them learn invaluable life lessons and interpersonal skills, Glaser noted.
“They work tirelessly to mentor, lead, and provide positive opportunities for student athletes,” he added. “They help to instill the grit and determination it takes to compete regardless of outcome.
National Coaches Day began when then President Richard Nixon signed a proclamation declaring Oct. 6, 1972 National Coaches Day.
