R&D Showcase- Submissions Due March 28, 2022

All Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD) students are encouraged to enter their projects and experiments to share in this year’s Research and Development Forum (R&D Forum) Student Showcase!

Submissions are accepted until March 28, 2022. Click here for submission information.You are welcome to submit as a teacher or family member, or encourage an SMSD student you know to enter.  

The entire community is invited to see what SMSD students have learned and created in this showcase. Open houses will be held for the community to see submitted works from April 18-28, 2022 at the Center for Academic Achievement.

Projects can be submitted for display only or entered in competitive judging for award opportunities.

What kinds of projects can students enter? The showcase will feature student work in the areas of: 

What is the R&D Forum? This year marks the 60th anniversary of the R&D Forum in the SMSD. The R&D Forum is a district-wide celebration of student innovation and excellence, with special focus in science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and career and technical education.

The R&D Forum is hosted by the SMSD with sincere gratitude to the Regnier Family who has supported the event since it began in 1962.

The Next Great Idea Pitch Competition

The Next Great Idea gives student innovators an opportunity to pitch an idea to judges for a chance to win cash prizes and money to advance their entry. The competition will be livestreamed so friends and family can participate. Visit www.smsd.org from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on April 30, 2022 for a link to watch the event and a chance to cast your live vote. A People’s Choice category, determined by public voters will be awarded a $500 cash prize. Online voting will occur following the final pitch.
