Rising Star Teacher Honored for Going the Extra Yard
Shawnee Mission School District

Erin Stout, Kindergarten teacher at Rising Star Elementary, was honored this spring with the College Football Playoff’s Extra Yard for Teachers recognition.

Stout received two complimentary tickets to a Kansas State University football game. There, she will be recognized as the Shawnee Mission School District’s representative as educators from across Kansas are recognized. Stout has the opportunity to win $500 for a classroom project as part of this recognition.

Earlier in the school year, Stout was recognized as the Rising Star Elementary School Teacher of the Year. She is respected by her colleagues, students, and Rising Star families, principal Tammara De La Rosa shared.

“Erin meets each of her students where they are, both academically and developmentally,” noted De La Rosa. “She teaches to meet the needs of each student. She does this by getting to know every student and by taking a personal interest in their lives. Students learn academics in class, but equally as important, they learn how to be a good friend, how to get along with others, and how to be a successful student in school.”

This honor was presented through K-State Athletics, a participant in the College Football Playoff’s Extra Yard for Teachers program.
