Shawnee Mission East Boys Swim Team Celebrates Championship

The Shawnee Mission East boys swim team is celebrating a new state title. They are the Kansas State High School Athletic Association (KSHSHAA) 6A Boy’s High School State Champions.  This is the team’s eighth title since 2010.

Setting new school records in the 200-freestyle relay, the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard breaststroke, the winning total team score was 325.  The team of seniors, James Schipfer, Will Roberts, Brady Smith, and Bo Kimmel achieved the All-American Consideration results and won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.48.

Evan Deedy, senior, won state champion in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 57.20. Deedy was 1st Team All-State.  

Schipfer took 3rd place in the 100-yard Backstroke with a time of 52.05.  Schipfer and Kimmel were 2nd Team All-State.

Coaches Wiley Wright, Colby Dischinger, Ginger Waters and Elizabeth Anderson do an amazing job working with the swim team, Debbie Katzfey, SM East athletic director shared. 

“They teach them to be great swimmers, students, and gentlemen.” Katzfey shares, “They are such good sports to all their opponents in every way.”
