The innovation of Shawnee Mission educators was front and center.
The Shawnee Mission Education Foundation honored Excellence in Education (E2) grant recipients with a reception held at the Center for Academic Achievement on Monday, March 21, 2022.
The recipients also joined Kim Hinkle, executive director of the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation, at the Board of Education meeting to be recognized by the Board and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Hubbard. Hinkle commended the teachers for their innovative vision during a challenging time.
“We always applaud our grant award winners, but this year we do so even more,” Hinkle expressed. “It says something really special that all of these educators worked so hard on these grants and that they will receive them from the Foundation.”
Each year the Foundation presents E2 grants to educators to foster innovative and challenging teaching and learning opportunities.
April Cremer, fifth grade teacher at Tomahawk Elementary and E2 grant recipient expressed how thankful she was to receive a grant from the Foundation.
Cremer’s “3, 2, 1…Action” project provides greenscreens, teleprompters, tripods, and lighting for elementary students to use with their iPad. With these resources, students will have new ways to demonstrate their knowledge and engage in meaningful hands-on learning, like creating recordings of original stories or developing scripted videos with multiple settings.
“I am looking forward to seeing what great things our students will create with their iPads now that they will have access to the studio equipment and greenscreens”, shares Cremer. “We are very excited.”
