Sheila Young, language arts teacher at Shawnee Mission Northwest, was honored by the Shawnee Mission Board of Education as an All Star.
Dr. Lisa Gruman, Shawnee Mission Northwest principal, helped introduce Young at the Dec. 13 Board of Education meeting.
“Ms. Young is a transformational teacher, making those essential connections that inspire her students,” Dr. Gruman shared. “She goes above and beyond to empower each of them to find their own voice."
Joining Dr. Gruman, sophomore Isabella Vasquez shared with Board members that Ms. Young is especially deserving of the award for how she creates a safe space for every student in her classroom, for her dedication, and for her compassion.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for everything you do each and every day,” Vasquez said to Young.
