SMSD Educator Named Region 3 Teacher of the Year Semi-finalist

Amy Sachse, a fourth-grade teacher at Corinth Elementary School, was named a Region 3 semi-finalist for the 2023 Kansas Teacher of the Year Award.

The Kansas Teacher of the Year program builds a network of exemplary teachers in Kansas who lead school improvement, student performance and the teaching profession, according to the Kansas Department of Education. The honor recognizes teaching excellence among elementary and secondary teachers.

Anna Sahadeo, 2016 Kansas Teacher of the Year finalist and Lenexa Hills second-grade teacher helped kick off the Region 3 ceremony.

“These teachers have been selected for their dedication to their districts, the teaching profession and the many children whose lives they have influenced,” Sahadeo shared.

Wraye Royle, a seventh-grade math teacher at Indian Hills Middle School is recognized as Shawnee Mission’s secondary honoree for 2023. The Kansas Teacher of the year distinction is awarded to 109 educators in Kansas every year. The educator selected as Kansas Teacher of the Year is eligible to become National Teacher of the Year.
