The Shawnee Mission School District took time to congratulate all students who are completing their time receiving Post-High Transition services

Students, educators, family members, and friends gathered on May 13, 2022 at the Center for Academic Achievement for an exit ceremony.

Amanda Wade, special education coordinator of secondary services began the ceremony. Then, Dr. Joe Gilhaus, deputy superintendent of the Shawnee Mission School District, delivered the commencement address.

All of the students have many abilities and deserve to be celebrated, he shared with the audience. He encouraged all of the students as they take their next steps to thank everyone who has been instrumental in their success.

“There is much growth to come and I hope you celebrate each day,” Dr. Gilhaus expressed.

As is tradition at this ceremony, each student received a diploma. Then, each student was recognized as Wade shared descriptions about their likes, dislikes, memories, and details about their plans for the future.

After every graduate received handshakes and diplomas, they gathered for a brief reception with family and friends.

“It feels amazing,” Qhalia Wimbush expressed while holding her diploma after the ceremony.
