Shawnee Mission high school math competitors have a lot to celebrate following a recent state competition. They earned numerous honors in a contest that drew more than 400 competitors from across Kansas.
Donald L. Bruyr Math Day was held this fall at Emporia State University. The event tested student math skills individually and in teams in algebra, geometry, and a “math scramble” category.
Maya Routh, a Shawnee Mission North senior, took first place in the Geometry individual competition. Christopher Ramsey, a Shawnee Mission Northwest senior, took second place.
Jill Johnson, Shawnee Mission North math teacher expressed her pride in the SM North math team. She shared that the team took time studying geometry and algebra tests released by Emporia State from previous years. The team is recruiting more team members as they get ready for Pittsburg State Math Relays coming in 2022.
