The Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD) is thanking a team of experts who keep us all connected throughout the year.
Sept. 21, 2021 is National IT Professionals Day.
Shawnee Mission’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Team represents a collaborative group of technology professionals focused on supporting many aspects of technology use in the SMSD, Drew Lane, executive director of ICT stated.
They support around 27,000 students and 3,500 employees using nearly 40,000 technology devices. In addition to supporting the learning experience, they also support platforms that manage the operational aspects of the district.
“The work people might see ICT professionals doing is just the tip of the iceberg,” Lane added. “These team members are special in that they perform their roles with a focus on learning and a dedication to supporting student opportunities that allow the best possible chance of student success.”
Field Analysts in the Photos:
Jarred Olson said the best part of his job is when teachers and students give him a round of applause when a problem is solved. “You can see the enjoyment on their face even when they are wearing a mask,” Olson shared.
Ryan Horn highlighted that as a field analyst he is successful because he works with an entire team of ICT professionals. This includes individuals who support technology security, networking, and other aspects. They support his day-to-day work, which includes everything from solving problems, student walk-up assistance, and minor repairs.
He said the best part of his job is helping students and staff resolve issues.
“I’m excited to help them not be able to have to worry about technology so they can focus on learning,” he shared. “I’m glad it can help take the pressure off sometimes.”
