Thank You SMSD Paraeducators!
Shawnee Mission School District

The Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD) thanks all paraeducators, teacher’s aides and instructional assistants for the daily support they provide students and staff. On April 6, Paraprofessional Appreciation Day, everyone is encouraged to say an extra word of thanks.

SMSD paraeducators provide teachers with added support, working with students in and outside of the classroom and providing one-on-one assistance for special education students.  Special Education team leaders noted the dedication, support, and care these individuals provide every day.

Paraeducators play a critical role in helping each student achieve personal excellence, Sherry Dumolien, director of special education shared.

“They provide a great amount of guidance for our students, encouraging them daily to stretch their skills,” Dumolien noted.  “It is rewarding to see the bonds established with our paraeducators and students. We thank them for all they do. I hope everyone joins us in saying thank you to the paraeducators they know in our community.”

The Kansas State Department of Education also shared a statement of gratitude for all paraeducators provide.

“To all the paraprofessionals around Kansas, thank you for your commitment to the teachers you support and the students you help on their learning path,” the statement noted.
