Shawnee Mission School District offices reopen on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. As the doors open, office staff members will be there to greet colleagues and SMSD families.
To get ready, on Monday, July 25, 2022, building office team members gathered for a welcome back breakfast, hosted by partners from Mainstreet Credit Union.
Superintendent Dr. Michelle Hubbard, recently asked principals across the district about the many qualities these individuals bring to the places they work. She shared that principals described these staff members as calm, empathetic individuals who set the tone for the building, have a great heart for students, and go above and beyond in their work. Dr. Hubbard also expressed her hope that all of these team members have an amazing year.
Dr. Jarius Jones, director of classified human resources, spoke about how everyone’s work and actions impact those around them. He highlighted how this connects to the idea “We are One Shawnee Mission” and supports student success and student achievement.
“It takes every person working together,” Dr. Jones expressed. “We have to be one.”
The professionals also attended a series of presentations related to safety and security, health services, leadership and learning, technology, human resources, and student services to prepare for this school year.
Before the event concluded, attendees were thanked by Kathy Saunders and Bob Mayes from Mainstreet Credit Union. Saunders shared how the credit union began at what is now Shawnee Mission North in the early 1950s.
“Shawnee Mission is near and dear to our hearts,” she added.
Mayes and Saunders presented all attendees with an umbrella and passed out door prizes.
“We love to serve you and you have become a part of our DNA,” Mayes said. “Thank you for what you do for students and the community.”
