Shawnee Mission Congratulates National Merit Semifinalists

National Merit Semifinalist 2023
Shawnee Mission School District

National Merit Semifinalists and their families were invited to a reception where students were recognized for their outstanding academic achievement.

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Hubbard, high school principals, and district leaders attended the honor reception, applauding students and their family members for their accomplishments and successes.

The National Merit Program has named 10 Shawnee Mission seniors as semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. These students took the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

During the reception, high school principals introduced their student honorees. Each student shared their college and career goals in the fields of math, chemical engineering, biotechnology, and computer technology.

Dr. Hubbard thanked the families for supporting their students and wished them well as they prepare for their futures, encouraging each student to share their gratitude with those who have influenced them along their way.

Extending congratulations, Dr. Hubbard referred to the honorees as ‘national champions of academics” and expressed, “you are clearly an outstanding group of students.”

The following students earned semifinalist distinction and will have an opportunity to advance in the competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, worth about $30 million to be offered next spring.
