Shawnee Mission Music Educators Honored

Jon Duncan and Rebecca Donahoo awarded Outstanding Music Educator
Shawnee Mission School District

Two Shawnee Mission choir teachers were recognized for their dedication and outstanding contributions to music education by the East Central Kansas Music Educators Association (ECKMEA).

Jon Duncan, Shawnee Mission South choir director, was honored as “Outstanding High School Choir Educator. Rebecca Donahoo, Indian Woods middle school choir director, was named “Outstanding Middle School Choir Educator.”

Each was selected for the prestigious recognition following a nomination and voting process conducted by their peers in the East Central Kansas Region. The honor not only underscores their individual excellence and tireless efforts, but also shines a spotlight on the strength of the Shawnee Mission South area choir programs.

Duncan and Donahoo were presented with their awards during the ECKMEA District Honor Choir concerts held in early December.

Both educators are now eligible for the state award, which will be conferred by Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) Leadership at the annual in-service worship in February.

The East Central Kansas Music Educators Association serves as a platform to support music educators by fostering leadership, providing professional development, and promoting the advocacy of music learning in schools and communities, according to their website.
