The Research and Development Forum (R&D Forum) will feature a Student Showcase, with display-only and competitive exhibits, and will be held in April 2024.
Students, families, and staff members are encouraged to enter student-created projects, experiments or art projects to share in this district-wide event.
All submissions must be registered and information on how to register can be found online. The deadline to register for the showcase is March 29, 2024.

The SMSD community is invited to attend this year’s 62nd R&D Forum by attending the following events at the Center for Academic Achievement (CAA), 8200 W. 71st St.
Showcase Open House Receptions
● 4 to 7 p.m. April 23 Reception for all entrants, families, and the community
● 4 to 7 p.m. April 24 Reception for all entrants, families, and the community
● 4 to 7 p.m. April 25 Reception for all entrants, families, and the community
Entries will be on display at the CAA, with a reception for all entrants and families. There will also be music performances by student groups from across the district.
Next Great Idea Live Pitch and Award Ceremony
Get ready to watch student competitors as they share ideas for solving a problem for the chance to win prize money
Links to watch The Next Great Idea competition will be shared on www.smsd.org or community members can watch the competition at the Center for Academic Achievement.
April 27, 2024
9 to 11:30 a.m.- Finalists will present their Next Great Idea to a panel of judges. Public voting will follow the presentations.
2 p.m. - Awards ceremony for Showcase Entries, Regnier Award winners, and the Next Great Idea Pitch Competition award winners
