Everyone in the Shawnee Mission School District community is invited to join and support this year’s local Polar Plunge.
At this event, a brave group of individuals will take a jump into Lake Olathe on February 22, 2025, all to help raise money for the Special Olympics.
Shawnee Mission’s Team is called “Shiver and Shine” and Sherry Dumolien, chief of special education, has stepped up to guarantee SMSD has a representative taking the plunge! Superintendent Dr. Michael Schumacher will also join the team. The event itself features a 5K as well as a variety of activities for anyone who wants to find an alternate way to support.
Shawnee Mission students, families, and staff benefit from opportunities created through Special Olympics. The SMSD has previously been recognized for having the most participants at the event, so there is hope to have a lot of individuals joining the festivities.
