The Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD) is excited to welcome new Pre-Kindergarten students for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year! We offer programs at 21 elementary schools across the district to help your child build a strong foundation for future success. Limited spots are now available for 3-and 4-year olds. If you haven’t secured a spot for your child, now is the perfect time to enroll.
“As a Shawnee Mission alum, it means so much to know my child is starting her journey in what I believe is the best district in the county,” SMSD Pre-Kindergarten parent Melissa Onsen shared. “Pre-K at Benninghoven has been such a great opportunity to build friendships, learn important soft skills, and begin developing reading, math, and language skills that will support her future.”
How to Enroll
Enrollment applications help secure your child’s placement in our Pre-K program. Please note that Pre-K has limited slots.

Eligibility Requirements
To ensure your child is placed in the correct program, please note the following age requirements (based on the state guideline of August 31):
● 3-Year-Olds: Must be 3 on or before August 31, 2026.
● 4-Year-Olds: Must be 4 on or before August 31, 2026.
● Kindergarten Note: Students who turn 5 on or before August 31, 2026, are not eligible for Pre-K and should enroll in Kindergarten. Click here to enroll in Kindergarten.
