Members of the Shawnee Mission School District community are continuing an annual tradition of jumping into a freezing lake for a good cause. They invite anyone in our community to join in supporting the effort!
This team is called “Freezin’ for a Reason: Because Kids” and they will jump in a lake on February 28, 2026 to support Special Olympics Kansas.
Dr. Sherry Dumolien, associate superintendent of special education and strategic initiatives, has stepped up to guarantee SMSD has a representative taking the plunge! Dr. Michael Schumacher, Superintendent, will also take part. The event itself features a 5K as well as a variety of activities for anyone who wants to find an alternate way to support. Shawnee Mission students, families, and staff benefit from opportunities made possible through Special Olympics.
