A Message from the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation

Cares Fund
Shawnee Mission School District

In 2013, the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation started the Shawnee Mission Cares Fund

to provide one-time, emergency financial assistance to our families in crisis. Unlike social services organizations that might require some financial data or other screening, the Foundation can take a recommendation or request from a school team and get the problem solved usually in less than 24 hours.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the ground under our feet, we want you to know that we are still here for the community. We may be socially distancing, but we’re also coming together like never before.

We are working closely with our school nurses and social workers to identify families who need additional assistance. We are fortunate to have so many helpers in our SMSD community.

“I am so inspired by the positive support our community is showing and sharing during this unprecedented time,” Kimberly Hinkle, executive director of the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation said. “We have had many inquiries from families and patrons asking how they can help.”

Shawnee Mission families are coping with an uncertain financial future, and we anticipate a great increase in requests to the Cares Fund. We will be assisting with critical food, hygiene, transportation, and medical needs.

Please consider making a gift to the Cares Fund or call 913-993-9360 and we will call you back very quickly.

Our community has stepped up in the past to provide the support that some of our families so desperately need. We need you now more than ever.
