Three Brookwood Elementary fifth-grade students are helping their community celebrate as Arbor Day approaches.
Heba Boullaouz, was named a winner, and Ella Gray and Stella Shumate received Honorable Mentions in a local art contest. All three posters are currently on display at the Leawood Library.
The posters will be on display at Leawood City Hall following a ceremony at the City Council meeting on March 2.
“Arbor Day is important to me because a world without trees would affect shelter for birds and animals,” Heba shared. “Without animals we wouldn’t have a food chain or complete ecosystem.”
Sarah Gilmore PTA environmental/composting chair and clerical aide at Brookwood helped to organize the contest that is facilitated by the Leawood Tree Committee and Kansas Forest Service.
