Josiah Enyart, a Comanche Elementary sixth grade teacher, is a recipient of a Jedel Excellence in Mathematics Education Award.

The Jedel Family Foundation, in collaboration with The University of Kansas Center for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)  Learning presents this award to recognize those that implement innovative instructional practices and strategies to strengthen students’ understanding of mathematics.

The winners exemplify innovation, mentorship and service in elementary and secondary mathematics teaching and are bestowed to recognize exemplary K-12 math teaching in the Greater Kansas City area.

In a surprise announcement, Principal Missy Green shared comments from Enyart’s colleagues who described him in the following ways:

“Josiah’s instructional techniques are dynamic. They change every day, depending what each of his students need.”

“Josiah is an excellent teacher and mentor. He builds important relationships with his students, so that they trust him and develop a desire for self-improvement and recognize they are the keys to their own success.”

As a Jedel Excellence in Mathematics Education winner, Enyart will receive a $1000 award and Comanche Elementary will receive a Certificate of Recognition and a banner that can be placed outside the school. Dr. Katrina Rothrock, director of the Jedel Excellence in Mathematics Education Awards notes, “We’d like everyone to know that there is phenomenal mathematics teaching happening at Comanche!”
