The Shawnee Mission School District is seeking nominations for educators to be considered for the Kansas Teacher of the Year award. Colleagues, students, parents, and community members are encouraged to nominate outstanding teachers.
The deadline to nominate a candidate is Jan. 11.
Nominees must have completed at least five years in the profession and have served at least three years in the Shawnee Mission School District.

The Kansas Teacher of the Year program recognizes teaching excellence across the state. The Kansas State Department of Education asks each school district to nominate one elementary and on secondary classroom teacher for the program.
The person named Kansas Teacher of the Year is entered in the National Teacher of the Year competition and honorees are invited to become a part of a Kansas teachers network to share best practices and ideas.
