To help students celebrate their academic achievement, educators at several Shawnee Mission schools have recently given students the red-carpet treatment.
Rhein Benninghoven Elementary School kicked-off the semester with a New Year’s celebration and a surprise assembly. Many staff and students were dressed up for the celebration and a fashion show. Dr. Brittany Gonser, Benninghoven principal, shared the history and traditions of celebrating the new year. Teachers shared their New Year resolutions in a video that included being more organized, reading more books, and drinking more water.
The highlight of the assembly was the introduction the new Benninghoven Knight mascot, provided by the school PTA. Gonser announced a naming competition for their new mascot where students will be invited to write a short paragraph about their suggested name and the reason.
“As a staff we hope to energize our students and get them excited and ready for success during the second semester,” Gonser said.
The fourth-grade classes won the spirit stick for the assembly for best listening and behavior.
Shawanoe Elementary held its very own award ceremony and invited parents and supportive community members to the big event.
Students dressed up for the occasion and were presented with recognitions of their academic growth. Modeled after a Hollywood extravaganza, students dressed up for the occasion that included cheers from high school students, dancing, award presentations, and games.
