Shawnee Mission North Strolling Strings students have been honored for the excellence they bring to the Sunflower State.
The musicians performed and were recognized at the annual meeting of the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas. This annual event is a birthday party for Kansas and was hosted just before Jan. 29, the day the state commemorates admission to the Union.
The group received a citation from Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, for “Distinguished Excellence in Entertainment.” The citation stated the Strolling Strings group plans to continue the mission of sharing music with the public in an engaging and innovative way.
The Strolling Strings perform under the direction of Anna Cook. The musical group has been sharing music locally, nationally, and abroad for more than 35 years. The 40-member ensemble of sophomores, juniors, and seniors play a variety of stringed instruments while traveling on foot.
