Focusing on goals and encouraging students do their best on tests, Mill Creek Elementary School recently hosted its sixth-annual, spring pep rally.

This tradition started at Mill Creek to strengthen school pride and expectations and help encourage everyone through to the last day of school, principal Michelle Lord said.

“The students are always very energized after the assembly, celebrating assessment scores and positive behavior,” noted Lord. “It’s also a time to let the students know that every staff member is here to support them.”

This year, the event encouraged students to help create “The Greatest School” and centered around a circus theme.

Students from Shawnee Mission Northwest, including cheerleaders and drumline members, got the celebration started.  Several students and their family members shared juggling, hula-hooping, and Yo-Yo skills and talked about the practice it took  for them to learn their talents. The event also included the debut of a video produced by the school’s Watch Dads of Great Students (DOGS) program to help inspire students for the rest of the school year, which school choir members providing vocals.

“This event is a great way to bring our community together to celebrate our students’ success,” Michelle Lord, principal said.
