New School Year Begins for Shawnee Mission School District Students

New School Year Begins for Shawnee Mission School District Students
Shawnee Mission School District

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year, Shawnee Mission students!

Students are returning to schools across the district this week. On Aug. 12, teachers and staff members welcomed students in first through sixth grades to a new year. Seventh-graders and high school freshmen also began the school year in new buildings.

The first day brought opportunities for students to get to know their teachers, become reacquainted with and meet new classmates, and begin to learn and set goals for the new year. Upperclassmen were on-hand at all middle and high schools to serve as mentors to students who began a new year in a new school.

The Shawnee Mission School District is celebrating a milestone this year, as it commemorates the 50thyear since Shawnee Mission became a unified school district. As the district celebrates its legacy of excellence, it also renews its focus to challenge today’s learners and inspire tomorrow’s leaders.  As a community, through the Strategic Plan, the Shawnee Mission School District has also outlined its commitment to helping each child  in our schools create their own personal success.
