As Christa McAuliffe Elementary started off this school year, classrooms were filled with students and grownups sitting side-by-side.
Parents joined students for the first day of school as part of the school’s first Back-to-School Blast Off. The day was organized to help the school build stronger relationships with families and help parents experience the joy of the first day of school with their students, friends, and neighbors, Principal Michael Orr said.
Throughout the day parents attended back-to-school presentations given by teachers, ate a picnic lunch with students, learned about opportunities for participating in PTA, and worked on classroom projects with students. The event also gave parents a first-hand look at what their child's day will be like during the school year.
“The first day of school is always a positive, energy-filled event,” he said. “We offered parents an opportunity to experience that same positive energy.”
