A Pawnee Elementary School sixth-grader was recently honored as a “Kind Kid of the Month.”

Jen Johnson from KC 102.1 visited the school and surprised sixth-grader Joy Partin with the award. Click here to see a video.

The honor is given to students in Kansas City who excel academically and give back to their community. Partin was nominated five times for the award.  One nominee said that Partin often goes out of her way to be kind to students who seem to just need a friend.

“This person is a role model for other kids and even adults and she doesn’t do it in a way that seeks attention,” one nominee wrote. “When someone needs help, she is the first person to speak up, show up, and work hard. Being kind, helpful, and compassionate comes naturally to this wonderful young lady and I can’t think of a person who epitomizes the phrase ‘Kind Kid’ more than her.”

As Kind Kid of the Month, Partin was presented with $250 from Commerce Bank, donuts, and a pizza party for her class.
