Pre-kindergarten Students Explore the Wonders of Water

Pre-kindergarten Students Explore the Wonders of Water
Shawnee Mission School District

As the school year concluded, some Shawnee Mission Pre-kindergarten students took a deep dive into learning all about water.

Teachers guided students through a variety of creative, interactive and purposeful play activities, at school and on field trips, to help them grow and know more about H20.

At Rosehill Elementary, students and their family members held a picnic and water exploration day. The event gave students a chance to learn, explore, and purposefully play together. They used water to paint, play games to help learn about letters, and blow a variety of shapes of bubbles in the school yard.

Bridgette Fullington, Rosehill Pre-kindergarten teacher, said that the event also gave the students and families ideas for activities they can do together during the summer months and  to see the garden their children helped build and plant at school earlier this year.

Briarwood Elementary Pre-kindergarten students explored water-related habitats through a variety of activities. In the spring, they took a field trip to the Sea Life Kansas City Aquarium to take a journey under the sea.

Before study about underwater habitats concluded at Briarwood, students created their own fish habitats. Using craft materials, they built cardboard fish, their living quarters and shared their descriptions about the underwater locales.

Pre-kindergarten enrollment is open for 17 elementary schools in the Shawnee Mission School District. Children must be four-years old on or before Aug. 31 and live within the Shawnee Mission School District boundaries. Click here to learn more.
