A group of second-graders at Rosehill Elementary School have been recognized as Honorable Mention winners in a nationwide Toshiba/National Science Teacher Association ExploraVision competition. The honor places them in the top 10 percent of contest submissions from across the United States and Canada.

This competition asks students to think of a problem they would like to solve and research, brainstorm, and create an invention that could help solve that problem.

The second-graders at Rosehill created an invention called “Aller Alert,” which is a watch that can detect allergy symptoms and alert the user and emergency contacts. The watch would also include an epinephrine autoinjector, so it could always be easily accessed by someone experiencing an emergency.

The team of students were coached by Brandi Leggett, instructional coach, and Alison Harrington, library media specialist. Rosehill students have earned recognition from the ExploraVision competition for four consecutive years.

The team of second-graders at Rosehill includes:
Bridgette Griesbach
Liam Cowley
