Shawnee Mission Girls Succeed in Swimming and Diving

The Shawnee Mission East Girl’s swim team claimed second place in the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) Girls State championship in May. Shawnee Mission Northwest took eighth place, Shawnee Mission South placed ninth, and Shawnee Mission West placed 20th.

SM East placed first in the following events:
200 Medley Relay, Anna Gunderman, Anne Deedy, Lauren McDouglad and Maeve Linscott
100-Yard Butterfly, Lauren McDougald

The State Finals for Girls Diving, included:
Madi Vanderpool, SM West, second
Mia Musson, SM South, third
Elizabeth Wiedman, SM East, eighth
Celeste Gordon, SM Northwest, ninth
Ophelia Shapiro, SM South, twelfth

“We had an amazing state meet with a number of podium/medal finishers, a few top three finishers and a couple of state champions,” Shawnee Mission East Coach Ian Hutchinson said. “We had an outstanding meet and accomplished pretty much everything we possibly could with this team. I am very proud of all of their efforts and dedication.”
