Several Shawnee Mission marching bands have recently shared their musical talents with national and international audiences.
Over Winter Break, Shawnee Mission North marching band members and chaperones traveled to California to perform at the Holiday Bowl halftime show. They performed an arrangement of pop tunes with six other high schools.
On New Year’s Eve they marched in the nationally televised Big Balloon By the Bay Parade. At the parade they performed, “An American Christmas” a combination of holiday and patriotic music. This is the fifth time the band has traveled to California since 2002 and this is their third Holiday Bowl performance.
The Shawnee Mission East marching band performed in Rome’s New Year’s Eve Day Parade through the Piazza del Popolo in downtown Rome, Italy. The marching band also performed at the Fraascati Street Festival in Frascati, Italy.
The jazz and concert bands performed at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome.
The group toured the Colosseum, the Roman Forums, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, Vatican City, and Assisi while in Italy.
Members of the Shawnee Mission Northwest marching band traveled to Orlando Florida during Winter Break to march in the Disney Magical Christmas Parade.
