A partnership including multiple Kansas City schools is giving Shawnee Mission students a new way to set themselves up for success in their future.
This week, the district formally became a partnering institution with the University of Kansas to offer a Degree in 3 program. The Shawnee Mission School District joins nine area school districts and community colleges to provide this college and career path. Interim Superintendent Kenny Southwick joined educational leaders from across the metro to sign Degree in 3 agreement.
Degree in 3 gives students a way to begin to earn college credit in high school. Then, they can follow up their study with an associate’s degree at a partner institution and then complete their bachelor’s degree through the KU Edwards Campus.
In Shawnee Mission, students will be able to enter the program through several of the district’s Signature Programs: Biotechnology, Pre-Law and Public Administration.
Shawnee Mission School District students who are interested are encouraged to talk to their school counselors about the opportunity.
