As guests arrived, they were greeted by school mascots, Strolling Strings performers, and presentations by students involved in Project Search internships, and Braille and robotics competitions.
Choirs from all five high schools opened the program for the more than 1,000 guests. Anthony Springfield, Shawnee Mission Education Foundation board president, served as flight director and welcomed donors and guests.
Kim Hinkle, executive director for the Foundation, shared the stage with teacher and student presenters who included:
· Alondra Haack, sixth-grader, Rising Star Elementary
· Allie Bishop’s second-grade class, Brookwood Elementary
· Bridgette Fullington, Pre-kindergarten teacher, Rosehill Elementary
· JoAnna Euston, Instructional Coach, and Linnea Johnson, fourth-grader, Brookridge Elementary

This event also marked the first Fall Breakfast address given by Dr. Mike Fulton, superintendent. Fulton shared remarks about the year 2030 when this year’s first-grade class will graduate. He talked about preparing students for jobs that currently do not exist.
“This is the beginning of our journey to success. This is the moment we pull together to ensure every single student has the opportunity to succeed,” Fulton said.
He plans to involve all stakeholders in crafting a strategic plan that will make all students career- and college- ready.
This fundraising event helps the Foundation fund science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), arts and early childhood initiatives. The Shawnee Mission Cares Fund was featured at this year’s event. The fund provides emergency assistance to students and their families across the district during times of crisis.
