Adding to an already strong season, the Shawnee Mission North High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) swept the competition at a recent JROTC Athletic Challenge.

The SM North corps competed against schools from Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. The SM North team finished first in all three categories of the competition that included boys, girls, and co-ed.

“It was a dominating performance for the Indians and improved their record to 14-0 as the 2018-2019 season starts to heat-up,” Dennis Grayless, NJROTC instructor said.

The boys and girls teams finished first in all seven events capturing a perfect score of 1,400 points. The co-ed team finished first in six of the seven events earning 1,386 points.

The competition consisted of seven events: Pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, one-mile run, 6 x 100 shuttle relay, 6 x 200 oval relay and a modified combat fitness test. The first-place team in each event earns 200 points for that event with the remaining teams receiving a percentage of the 200 points based on the percentage they were behind the best team in each event. The grand total in the competition is 1,400 points.

The next competition will be an Inter-Service Drill Meet at Lee’s Summit West high school in December.
