The Shawnee Mission Northwest Theatre Department will present Rogers and Hammerstein’s
“Oklahoma!”
This year’s production is significant as “Oklahoma!” was the first musical presented at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School when the school opened 50 years ago. The productions will be presented at 7 p.m. February 7, 8 and 9 at the high school, 12701 W. 67th Street.
“Life in the theatre is truly timeless, and this production has been a wonderful way to celebrate 50 years with our extended theater family,” Jason Coates, director and theater teacher said.
A youth choral ensemble including students from Northwest-area elementary schools and Trailridge middle school, joined by SM Northwest alumni of all ages will perform in the musical numbers “The Farmer and the Cowman” and the finale.
“’Oklahoma!’ holds a special place in my heart as I played the character Laurey Williams in the 2003 SM Northwest production.” Cassie Banion, choir director said. “Like myself, I think alumni are coming back because we all miss the feeling of being a part of something that is bigger than ourselves and impossible to recreate without others.”
Tickets are $10 (free for SM Northwest students) and are available at the door or by emailing JulianneLondon@smsd.org.
