The holiday spirit was in full swing during SMNW StuCo Adopt-A-Tot community service program. Sarah Dent, SMNW Social Sciences Teacher and StuCo sponsor shared, “It’s the best day of the year.”

The program is Student Council’s largest event of the year, involving months of planning and preparing. They have been hosting this annual event for over 15 years.

The tots were the ones bringing cheer, as they were filled with excitement to visit Santa, single carols, and open presents. This year, 48 students and their families from Growing Futures Preschool were adopted by 48 different classrooms.

The morning began with holiday songs from SMNW Choir. Then the students helped the tots visit with Santa and create crafts.

The preschool students and their families were then invited to their adopted classroom for more fun. Each classroom was responsible for raising money, providing gift donations, decorating the classroom, and preparing food to celebrate their adopted tot and family.

Senior StuCo member, Michael Lammers shared that he loves to hang out with the kids and see them so excited, “It’s one of the best days of school.” Lammers has participated in the program since he was a freshman.
