Nicholas Platko, Shawnee Mission South associate principal, was selected as the East Central Kansas Music Educators Association (ECKMEA) Honor Administrator of the Year for 2018.
Platko was nominated by the entire music staff at SM South, for his support of music groups and the performing arts department.
“I had the privilege of reading the nomination letters, and they were phenomenal,” Dan Freeman, President-Elect for the Northeast Kansas Music Educators Association said. “None of the others we read came close, and the others were not weak.”
Nomination letters said, “Mr. Platko supports the SM South Music Department teachers and students with remarkable leadership, outstanding support of all types: from helping with small day-to-day details to larger initiatives, and through a tangible passion for the musical education for all SM South students.”
This annual award recognizes an administrator who demonstrates continuing leadership in developing, improving, and supporting music education within a wider commitment to arts education.
The Honor Administrator Award encourages and recognizes the on-going administrative support of arts education in local school districts of East Central Kansas.
Platko will be receiving his award, in early December at the ECKMEA Mini-Convention.
